All employers, big and small, should have Employee Handbooks today.  Ideally, employers should have their handbook produced with help from an HR Professional, and have it updated regularly.  The rules and regulations that need to be covered in an Employee Handbook are constantly changing and it can be quite difficult to keep up.  An Employee Handbook is a critical tool for a business to set its goals and objectives, set the tone of the business, and set proper expectations.  It also limits the employer’s exposure and provides fair treatment for all employees.

Here is a list of ten policies that should be included in all employee handbooks:

1)      At-Will Employment Disclaimer

2)      Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

3)       Prohibited Harassment and Discrimination

4)      Retaliation

5)       FMLA

6)      Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA

7)      Discipline

8)      Monitoring Electronic Communications

9)      Alcohol and Drugs

10)   Confidentiality

This article goes into further detail about each policy.

While this list is very important, there are many other policies that should be considered.  If you have any questions or would like any further information please reach out to MassPay at 978-998-6896.
